We are local women helping local women.

New Kind of Philanthropy

The Women’s Fund SouthCoast invites you to become a member of a group of motivated individuals who are committed to advance in-need women and girls living in the New Bedford and Fall River area. We are local women helping local women. Join us to drive change and transform lives. Targeting charitable donations to women and girls is imperative. Studies show that if women and girls are given education and living-wage work, they become capable citizens who are more productive, save more, and invest more in their families. Healthier mothers raise healthier children to reach their full potential. Economies improve. This statistic from The Clinton Global Initiative gives credence to this: “When women work, they give 90% of their income back into their families, compared with 35% of men.”

It will be up to women to fund our social and economic progress. Women’s Funds play a central role in allocating funds to the most effective and innovative change efforts. In advancing the status of women and girls, we must redefine old notions of who a philanthropist is. We must all become philanthropists with new, more democratic and collective approaches. We must drive the change through a new funding movement based on collaboration, connection, and shared values.

The Women’s Fund SouthCoast has the network and expertise to allocate funds to the most vital, worthy projects. We identify the right resource to address the most pressing issues, whether they be education, child care, living wage, health, safety and wellbeing, civic and political leadership.

We are a collective voice for positive change.

In the past 20 years, the Fund has become a leading resource on the status of women and girls, documenting the reality of their lives on the SouthCoast. Our knowledge, experience, and vision empower us to influence community decision-making and to partner with area nonprofits, businesses, and elected officials to address women’s needs and close the gender gap.

Additional Ways to Contribute

While making a financial contribution is one way to help. You can invest in the futures of women and girls in many other ways.

2020 Corporate Sponsors

Below are many of the sponsors for the Fund’s annual Tiara 5k road race which was cancelled due to the pandemic. Many designated their annual funding to the COVID-19 Emergency Fund to offer neighborhood relief. We are grateful for their generosity.

Host a Giving Circle

We foster the development of giving circles to address specific areas of interest among our community members. Giving circles can address issues like leadership development, fair-wage policies, health disparities, among others. The Fund works with groups to collectively learn and discuss the local realities for women in our region. Often, giving circles create lasting friendships that ripple into action. Together, the group raises money to impact progress in their interest areas.

The Women’s Fund can advise interested parties on how to create or join giving circles, and provide ongoing assistance and strategic guidance.

Giving circles gather women (and men) to amplify their capacity to advance the economic mobility of women. A relatively small individual gift combines with others to become a power force for change.

Giving Circles Are Key Catalysts for Change. They can grow to spur additional collective action for individuals to organize and influence policy or shape projects and programs. Giving circle investors are involved with each other and the programs they fund. They are investors who create networks for collaboration. They can be an effective means of creating community.

The Women’s Fund SouthCoast works with giving circles to identify and direct grants to nonprofits with expertise and capacity to achieve their missions.

What Drives Us

We imagine a world in which women and girls are valued and their voices heard.
