We’re Hiring: Young Women’s Initiative Lead—New Bedford

Help young people turn their experiences and ideas into community action—and make real decisions about funding local organizations.

Women’s Fund SouthCoast is seeking a part-time instructor and program lead for our New Bedford Young Women’s Advisory Council (YWAC), part of the Young Women’s Initiative.

This opportunity is well suited to an educator, organizer, graduate student, or experienced youth facilitator who brings a commitment to gender, racial, and economic justice and enjoys supporting young people as they develop their leadership.

About the Program

YWAC brings together young women and gender-expansive youth, centering young people of color, to explore issues affecting their lives and take action together. Participants conduct community research, develop advocacy priorities, and make grantmaking decisions that direct resources to local organizations.

The Program Lead helps participants build the knowledge, relationships, and confidence to put that leadership into practice.

About the Role

Working with WFSC staff and youth peer leaders, you will:

  • Plan and facilitate engaging, accessible sessions exploring gender, racial, and economic justice.
  • Help participants connect their experiences to broader social issues and opportunities for change.
  • Guide youth through community research, advocacy, and participatory grantmaking.
  • Mentor participants and peer leaders, supporting shared decision-making and youth ownership of the program.
  • Communicate with participants and coordinate with WFSC staff on preparation, follow-up, and program needs.

We’re looking for someone who builds trust, guides thoughtful conversations, and creates space for young people to learn from one another and lead.

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience facilitating groups of teens or young adults.
  • A grounding in gender and racial justice, feminist political education, or community organizing.
  • The ability to translate complex ideas into accessible, participatory activities.
  • A commitment to youth leadership and shared decision-making.
  • Strong communication, preparation, and follow-through.
  • Reliable availability for in-person sessions in New Bedford.

We welcome relevant professional, academic, community, and lived experience. Connections to New Bedford and the SouthCoast are especially valuable.

Schedule and Compensation

  • Term: Immediate start through June 2027.
  • Time commitment: Approximately 10 hours per week, including session preparation, facilitation, participant follow-up, and staff coordination.
  • Sessions: Every other Thursday, 5:30–7:30 p.m., at the WFSC office in New Bedford. The next planned session is November 12.
  • Compensation: $12,000 over the program term, paid hourly.

How to Apply

Please send your résumé and a brief statement describing your relevant experience and interest to Christine Monska, Executive Director, at [email protected]. Use the subject line “YWAC New Bedford Program Lead.”

Apply by Friday, November 6, 2026. Applications will be reviewed as received, and interviews are underway.
